HRC National Dinner

HRC 2014 National Dinner

I had the privilege of attending the nineteenth annual Human Rights Campaign National Dinner in our Nation’s Capital this past weekend. There were 3200 people in attendance, including President Bill Clinton, Jennifer Hudson, Elton John, and David Furnish. President Clinton delivered the keynote address, followed by Sir Elton accepting the HRC’s National Equality Award, then Jennifer Hudson ended the program with an amazing performance. The only straight thing that room that night was my bow tie, lol.

WordCamp Baltimore

WordCamp Baltimore 2014 #WCBALT

Had a fabulous time at WordCamp Baltimore 2014 this week. It was totally energizing and inspirational and I appreciated just being in the same room with so many smart people. The organizers did a great job.

The “Security Fundamentals for Professionals” session with Joseph Herbrandson ( @JHerbrandson) was definitely an eye-opener and I’ll be busy for the next few days checking all of my client sites for rogue plugins and other vulnerabilities. The “Responsive Design with WordPress” session with Joe Casabona (@jcasabona) was a total game-changer for me. I am going to be diving head-first into designing for “mobile first” and revisiting all of my current sites to make sure the mobile experience is an exceptional one. Joe’s session actually changed the way I will be doing business as a freelance designer and Web developer moving forward. It was that good.

Follow the #WCBALT hashtag on Twitter to follow the conversation. And in case you missed it, both the speaker slides and videos have been posted on their website.

Now, to put into actual practice all of the great things that I learned!
